It pains me to see so many businesses that have been around for years before Google even started getting overtaken by new businesses who simply have a better understanding of how search engines work.  There is no substitute for good service and you will keep your clients is that is what you provide, but in terms of generating new business easily, Google is the way to go.

So how can you increase your organic rankings for your local business?

If you really want to dominate the first page, you will need help from a trained expert.  However, if you are looking for a fairly quick and easy bump in your rankings there are many things you can do yourself that will help increase your organic ranking and generate more traffic.

  1. Create at least 30 social profiles or citations.

What is a citation you ask?  Any listing for your business online that has your name, address, phone number, and a link back to your website.  Think Better Business Bureau, Yelp, Yellowpages, or any other directories that you can be listed in with a link back to your website.  Social profiles include a Facebook page, Linkedin page, Twitter account, and Youtube channel.  When someone types in a search term into Google, they are looking for a solution.  Google wants to give that person the best solution possible and the only way they know that you are the best is if other reputable sites are talking about you.

2. Create a video for your homepage.

For many people (especially the older generation) video creation scares the living daylights out of them.  They start thinking, “Why would I spend thousands on a 2 minute video?”.  Fact is, you don’t have to spend thousands… There are some simple ways you can get a video done for less than $100 and it will help your website immensely.  Google owns Youtube and they love using their own content.  Embedding a video on your homepage will help you raise your rankings in the search engines.

3.  Hook your site up to search console.

Google search console is a fantastic tool that will help you evaluate you see how Google evaluates your website.  It’s very easy to setup and you can even outsource this for about $10.  Search console is a tool created by Google that tells you when your website is crawled, the links back to your site, how healthy your site is and much more.  It’s free to use and we can help you set it up!  Just get a free website audit here.

4. Create a Google My Business Page

This is one of the very best things you can do to increase your organic rankings quickly.  Creating a GMB page is fast and easy, simply google “how to create a google business page” and you will get all the instructions.  It’s important to fill out your page completely and add as many pictures as you can.  To verify your page Google will send a postcard to your address with a special code on it that you will have to enter into your page once you receive it.  Once verified you can even rank this business page in the maps.

5. Hire a trained expert to help you rank your website

Let’s not kid ourselves here, if you are in business to make money these steps are taking you away from servicing clients and acquiring new ones today.  So why not outsource it and have it done right so you can dominate your competition with first page rankings?  This is by far the most effective way of generating more traffic to your website.
